Why do you suppose Paul the Plumber suggests you might want PEX piping in your house?
He gives four major reasons. PEX is easier to install. It’s easier to service. It lasts longer than other piping. And so, it saves you money!
Because PEX piping is flexible, the pipes can snake around corners and through oddly shaped holes in the walls, avoiding the need for cutting through finished walls and drywall. It can be installed as one, long, continuous pipe from the water distribution point to the water fixture. In contrast, rigid copper and plastic piping both need elbows to make the twists and turns by connecting separate pipes to each other multiple times to reach the bathtub, shower, or faucet.
PEX saves Paul the Plumber an incredible amount of time to install it, and it saves you in the cost of the installation.
But, this is not all that makes PEX a great investment. Since it’s made of cross-linked polyethylene, it doesn’t corrode, it’s durable, and it costs less than copper piping—about 25% less. PEX has been shown through comprehensive testing to have a potential lifetime 10 times longer than copper systems, up to and beyond 100 years. So, again, your costs are cut tremendously in the long run as well as in the installation.
So, take the advice of Paul the Plumber when you have corroded and leaking pipes, check out PEX piping.
