About Water Softeners

Do you have hard water? Water is defined as “hard” if it contains more than 150 parts per million (ppm) of dissolved minerals, most often calcium and magnesium. In hard water, “soap scum” forms when the water’s calcium reacts with the soap. You have to use more soap or water to get things clean in hard water than in soft water. Hard water that is heated leaves calcium deposits (“scale”) on showers, sinks, and dishes, as well as in pipes, water heaters, washers, dishwashers, and coffee makers. Scale negatively affects these appliances’ performance and efficiency. Scale can still build up and cause problems in moderately hard water, from 75 to 150 PPM.

A water softener can prevent the damage from hard water scale buildup. Water softeners replace the deposit-forming calcium and magnesium with “soft” sodium ions. Most systems can remove fluoride. Some systems can remove fixture-staining iron and manganese. They may also remove natural minerals like sulfate, chromium, and arsenic, plus heavy metals. They can’t remove protozoa, bacteria, or viruses.

The experts at Paul the Plumber help you determine if your water is hard and which water softener system would be most beneficial.

Called Paul on Valentine’s Day, today, Sunday, 2/14/21. They were very responsive. They were helpful and friendly. I was charged only $345 and it was a pretty complicated job with wall cutting required. The copper pipe on hose faucet on exterior brick had busted and was leaking. Had to cut inside house under sink. Didn’t put the hose back as third hose on exterior for multiple reasons but primarily because we would have to remove the bathroom sink completely. A lot of plumbing parts are sold out too per this odd hard freeze with schools and roads shut down. Replace pipe and end piece. Paul was very knowledgeable and friendly by phone. He has a good team that was helpful along the way as well. Deborah did great with communicating and scheduling as well. I highly recommend them.

I was one of the many who experienced burst pipes after the big freeze February 2021. Working with Paul the Plumber was a stress-free and pleasurable experience from the moment they answered the phone. They arrived punctually to our appointment and worked efficiently, quickly isolating the problem. They were transparent about the issues and costs; there was no "extra upsells" or other pitches I have experienced from other plumbers in the area. Once the issue was resolved, they diligently cleaned up the minimal mess and set everything back to proper function. I cannot recommend Paul the Plumber enough; we are very grateful to them.

Paul and his employees were all terrific, I honestly can't say enough good things about them! They were on time, very communicative, upfront about everything. My situation required me to leave and go buy a new toilet and they had another appointment, but they made sure to come back to my house after that appointment and were here well into the evening (way past working hours) to ensure that everything got taken care of and handled! I appreciate it so much! We will ALWAYS use Paul the Plumber for our plumbing needs and highly recommend that you call them for all of yours! Great people!
