What are those things that go bang in the night? It could be someone who forgot their key banging on the door, or a neighbor telling you the lights in your car are on, a policeman warning you that a robber is loose in the neighborhood, or even fireworks, but you don’t need it to be your hot water heater. When all you want is a peaceful night’s sleep, you don’t need a noisy water heater.
If you’ve been awakened by your hot water heater banging away in the middle of the night, it’s time to do something about it. Paul the Plumber has some advice: When it starts banging and rumbling, something is wrong and it likely is among the most common water heater problems: excess sediment at the bottom of the tank bubbling up in the steam and banging against the metal outside of the tank.
Sediment is made of minerals found in hard water that settle at the bottom of your tank and make it harder for the water to heat. When this happens, the tank can overheat and destroy the protective lining inside the tank, leading to it rusting and the tank needing to be replaced.
When your system isn’t working efficiently, it’s costing you money. Paul the Plumber can flush out your water heater so that it heats quietly and efficiently, at the same checking for any damage that may have already been done.
