If too many people are bathing at the same time, or if you are doing the laundry, running the dishwasher, watering the lawn, and bathing at the same time, you may need to stagger things or get a larger tank.

If, though, the hot water isn’t there when you aren’t doing all of these things, there could be other problems. Consider the following:

One thing to check out is whether the fuse in the circuit breaker has tripped – an easy problem to fix yourself.

Leaking water heater tanks are another common problem, and if you find water on the floor around the base of the heater, this is likely why you have no hot water since the heater is designed to stop functioning if it isn’t full. You likely need a new water heater.

One of the thermostats could be malfunctioning if sediment has accumulated in the tank. You might only need to drain and clean it out to fix things, but if the thermostat has been damaged, it may need replacing.

A leaking gas valve can cause the water to cease heating. Check it out, and make sure it’s secure and in the right position. If it’s still leaking, call Paul the Plumber for his assistance to be safe.

Another problem may occur if you have a pilot light on your heater. You might need to relight it a few times to keep the heater burning. If this is the case, it’s time to get a newer type of water heater without a pilot light.

Any questions? Paul the Plumber can help you figure out what’s going on.
