This is not the sign you want to see on the door of your favorite hair salon this summer.

So, who does your hair? Is it the nice neighbor who has turned her garage into a salon? You may have to wait, though, for your long-needed haircut this summer, when our predicted power outages hit our part of Texas this summer. If your friend is smart, she may have already gotten a generator. If not, she will need to hurry up and get one to keep things working when disaster strikes.

There are two possibilities for generators: portable and standby.

With a portable generator, you put gas in, start it up and then plug appliances directly into its built-in outlet. First, though, you may have to drag it out of storage, set it up, and clean it up. If it’s been stored for a long time, you need to get rid of any old gasoline that has become unstable while sitting around until needed again.

The other choice is a standby generator, which has an automatic transfer switch that monitors the electricity being used. When there’s an interruption, it takes over the production of the needed energy. Then it turns off when the power is restored.

So, please tell your friend to contact Paul the Plumber to help her—especially given the predictions we have for power outages this summer here in the Houston area!
